The CH25 Armchair, designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1950, remains one of his most iconic creations, celebrated for its clean, simple form and innovative use of materials. At the time of its introduction, the chair created a stir due to Wegner’s pioneering choice of woven paper cord for the seat and backrest, a material that had not been previously used in furniture. Developed during World War II as a replacement for seagrass, paper cord proved to be both durable and non-stretching, perfectly suited for furniture making. The CH25 Armchair’s unique seat and backrest require approximately 400 meters of paper cord and 10 hours of hand-weaving by a skilled craftsman.
