Neu! / NEU

This, the band’s 1972 debut, is one of those relatively few records that sets a new musical blueprint, laying the foundations for all things ‘motorik’. The album’s opening track, ‘Hallogallo’ still sounds like a manifesto for minimalism in rock music, reducing the sound to a chugging chord and a streamlined, propulsive beat that stretch out towards infinity. Or at least ten minutes. Riddled with all manner of further musical experiments and sonic daring-do, all these years on this remains a fantastic, truly incendiary work. Neu! is something that should be heard by everyone.
