Meizhan 梅占 - Banyan Yancha
This rare rock tea variety originated in Sanyang village, Lutian township, Anxi county, more than 100 years ago. It has been used for the production of different tea categories, but it is within the rocky boundaries of Wuyishan park that it reached new expressions of flavor and a unique aromatic complexity. The first brews release floral notes of plum blossoms (梅 méi), orchids and roses, which later evolve into a creamy hazelnut aroma given by the medium charcoal-roasting process, and finally triumph in the typical minerality of the aftertaste. A renewed flavour experience opens up to the palate at each brew, increasing the pleasure of Gongfucha style brewing. Meizhan has been officially recognised as a national variety since 1985.
