Eastern Tea Club, Chapter 3: Six Ancient Tea Mountains 古六大茶山
The third chapter of our Tea Club opens on a wide landscape, stretching for 2.000 square kilometers on the Eastern side of Lancang river. After digging into the mellow taste and smooth complexity of Yiwu in the second chapter of our tea club, with the third chapter we want to broaden the experience of this historical terroir, expanding our tasting journey to cover all of the Six Ancient Mountains that wrote the history of Pu'er tea. Here, on the Eastern mountains of Xishuangbanna, lie the roots of the early production of Pu'er tea, traded throughtout China and abroad since Tang Dynasty. In a Qing Dynasty record, we read: "Pu'er tea is famous all over the world. It comes from the six tea mountains under Pu'er prefecture: Youle, Gedeng, Yibang, Manzhi, Manzhuan, and Mansa [later renamed Yiwu], with a circumference of 800 miles.
