Bai Mudan 白牡丹 - White Peony Tea
This pure white tea is composed of silvery buds and the first apical leaves of the famous Fuding Dabai cultivar, which open in the teapot during infusion, giving a bewitching spectacle, similar to the blooming of white peonies - 牡丹 mudan in Chinese. Baimudan was born at the beginning of the 20th century from the need to use the apical leaves following the harvest of the first young buds for Baihaoyinzhen, a tea of imperial quality. The difference in harvest is also reflected in the aroma, which in the case of Bai Mudan is richer and fuller, with amber infusions that shine with warm golden shades. The dried leaves have an intense scent of hazelnuts, which takes us back to an autumn landscape: these soft nuances can also be found on the palate, together with the sweet notes of ripe peaches, chamomile, and nectar, among which the typical freshness of the buds always returns, soft and persistent.
